The Tourism Department of the ARMM held a consultation forum on Community Based Tourism Development at the Marawi Resort in the Mindanao State University last November 14, 2012.
The Regional Secretary welcomed participants from the Academe, the Security Sector, other line agencies based in Lanao del Sur, TESDA and the local barangay officials of Barangay Calokan in Marawi City.
RSecretary Sampaco-Baddiri discussed the sustainable, community-based tourism development agenda in the ARMM--where tourism development in anchored on the preservation of the environment, conservation of local culture and heritage and economic sustainability.
Dean Tess Sanchez of the CHARM-MSU presented trends and prospects for tourism development at a global and national scale--focusing on tourism concepts that enabled participants to understand the underlying framework of the global tourism market.
Lastly, BGen Dan Lucero dealt with a major concern in tourism development which is the issue of peace and order. Highlighting the significance of tourism development, BGen Dan Lucero looked at the role of tourism development in ensuring the achievement of national interests of the national government.
After the substantive presentations of the speakers, a lively open forum followed with participants, each sharing their perceptions and opinions on how community tourism development can be operationalized. Expressions of support were given by Dr Madale of MSU, Director Tarhata of TESDA, Dr. Tamano, as well as Barangay officials present.
